Characteristics of a PDF to Doc file

It displays elementary information about the archive. The header, creator, subject, and key Docs can be set by the person who developed the file in the source application, such as Doc or InDesign, or by the person who developed the PDF. You can search these specification elements to find particular Documents. The KeyDocs part can be very helpful in limiting searches.

Note that several search engines use the header to detail the file in the search results list. If a PDF does not have a header, the list will display the name of the file. The file header does not always correspond to the file name.

Also, the Highlights section displays the PDF edition, page volume, number of pages, whether the file has tags, and whether it is enhanced for light Web viewing. (The size of the first page is reported in PDF files or PDF portfolios that have significantly more than one-page size inside). This information is created automatically and cannot be changed.

We recommend you to check our PDF to WORD converter.

Details the changes and functions allowed in the PDF. If a key, certificate, or security standard has been applied to the PDF, the procedure appears here.

It lists the fonts and fonts types used in the original file, as well as the fonts, fonts types, and encoding used to display the authentic fonts.

If optional fonts have been used and you are not satisfied with their appearance, you may want to have the authentic fonts placed on the system or ask the file’s creator to recreate it with the embedded authentic fonts.

Initial view (Acrobat only)

Details the appearance of the PDF when opened. This information includes the initial volume of the window, the number of the page it opens on and the magnification level of the view, and whether the page markers, thumbnails, utility bar, and menu bar will be exposed. This setting can be changed to monitor how the file will look the next time it is opened. You can also make JavaScript code that is executed when a page is exposed, a file is opened, etc.

Custom (Acrobat only)

It makes it easy for you to add features to the file.

Lists PDF values, print dialog box presets, and file read settings.

In the PDF settings for Acrobat, you can determine a base Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the file’s web links. When a base Internet address is detailed, it is simpler to manage Web links to other Web sites.

If the Internet address to the other site changes, it is sufficient to change the base Internet address without having to change every web link to that site. If a link has a complete Internet address inside, the base Internet address is not used.

You can also associate a sample index file (PDX) with the PDF. When you search the PDF with the Search PDF window, it also searches all indexed PDF files for the specified PDX file.

You can integrate pre-print information, such as burst, for the file. You can determine print presets for a file, which will automatically fill the Print dialog with values particular to the file.

Also, you can also determine reading settings that determine how the PDF is read by a screen reader or similar supporting gadget.

Adding a specification to Document characteristics

You can add key Docs to the features of a PDF file to be used by individuals in a search tool to locate the PDF.

(Optional) Click Companion Metadata to add other descriptive data, such as copyright information.

Create Document features

You can add custom file features that store particular types of metadata, such as version number or company name, in a PDF. The features you create are displayed in the File Features dialog box. The features you create must have unique names that do not appear on the other tabs in the File Features dialog box.

Choose PDF to Doc File > Features and now choose Customize.

To add a property, type the name and value, and then click Add.

To change the characteristics, do one of the following, and then click OK:

To remove a property, select it and click Remove.

Edit Document metadata

About Metadata

PDF Documents conforming to Acrobat 5.0 or later have within them file metadata in XML format. The metadata contains information about the file and its contents, such as the name of the creator, keywords, and copyright information, which can be used by search utilities.

Also, the file metadata contains (without limiting) information that is also displayed on the Specification tab of the File Features dialog box. The file metadata can be enlarged and changed using products from other sources.

Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) provides Adobe apps with a common XML framework that standardizes the construction, development, and exchange of file metadata between desktop publishing workflows.

You can store and import the XML source code of the metadata in XMP format, making it simple to communicate data between different Documents. You can also store file metadata in a metadata template that you can reuse in Acrobat.

View Document metadata

Choose File > Features, and now click the Add-on Metadata link on the Description tab.

Click Forward to display all metadata embedded in the file. (Metadata is detailed according to the schema, that is, in predefined groups of related information). Display or hide schema information by schema name. If a schema does not have a recognized name, it appears as unknown. The XML namespace appears in parentheses after the schema name.

Select Forward in the list on the left.

To modify the metadata, do one of the following, and then click OK.

To add previously saved information, click Append, select an XMP or FFO file, and now click Open.

Also, to add information and replace the recent metadata with information saved in an XMP file, click Replace, select a saved XMP or FFO file, and then click Open. New features are added, features that are already detailed in the new file are replaced, and features that are not already in the replacement file are in the metadata.

To remove an XML schema, select it and click Remove.

To append the recent metadata with the metadata of a template, hold down the Ctrl key (Windows) or Command (Mac OS) and choose a template name from the menu in the upper right corner of the dialog box.

Choose File > Features, click the Specification tab, and now click Companion Metadata.

Select Forward in the list on the left.

Save the file’s metadata and click OK:

To store the metadata in an external file, click Store and type the file name. The metadata is saved as a file in the XMP format. (To use the metadata stored in another PDF, open the file and follow these rules to replace or append the metadata in the Document.)

To store the metadata as a template, select Store Metadata Template from the menu in the upper-right corner of the dialog box and type the name of the file.
